Water muff's for a SportmasterLU

How can I run my motor with the Sportmaster LU intake at the front of the bullet.

Do you still have the normal intakes as well ? if so, just put some duct tape over the ones on the nose cone.

Other option is like I have started doing due to low water pressure @ the house. I got a huge storage container that the lower unit fit in and was deep enough to have water above the normal intakes. I fill it with water AND put the muffs on the normal intakes, and run it that way.

No side intakes, just the one's at the front of the cone.

Merc sells a adapter for the sporty, or if your handy you can make one.

I have to make another one but what I did was take a 2 liter soda bottle cut the bottom off, then epoxied a hose conector to the spout of the bottle (one from a hose repair kit) drill a couple small holes, one on eithr side of the bottom of the bottle and used small bungies to hold it on..

Worked great, but I gave it away and never made another.. Hmmm, guess I better make another in my spare time http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

If you want the CORRECT fitting one.... buy the Mercury Racing flush kit (similar to the Bob's kit- but desinned to fit your gearcase).

Thanks Don. If I was to submerse my Sportmaster into a 55 gallon barrel of water at idol should the telltale hole start flowing right away, or does the thermostate need to warm up and open?

You should expect to see water from the telltale as soon as the cooling system has filled (the telltale on Optimax Engines is NOT thermostaticaly controlled- it's actually the water OUTLET for the air compressor cooling circuit). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

Well my boat is stored indoors at my truck shop and before I left work today I put the LU in the barrel and filled the water well above the LU. I started it and waited for the telltale but stream came out. I checked the smart craft and analog gauges and zero pressure, water temp was warming up to 90 degree and rising so I shut it down.

Time for a water pump!!!

When utilizing the "barrel" method.... always make sure that water level is at least 4" above the GEARCASE MOUNTING SURFACE (this ensures water level is above the top of the water pump housing).

Based on your description- you probably better plan on a COMPLETE pump kit (with housing). We should have it in stock. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
