Found me a 225 Optimax for my Bullet!! Help with setup?
Well I found me a 225 Optimax for the right price to put on my 1991 20' XRD. It has a SEI gearcase. Couple questions--1. Can anyone give me some feedback on these Lower Units? 2. What is the best prop for overall performance for this set up. I have a 14" jackplate. The gearcase looks just like a Torquemaster. I already have a 26 Trophy for a spare, but I'm leaning to a Hydromotive just don't know exactly what kind. 3. What's the best speeds I can expect with this? Hoping mid 80's... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif

I got a 26 txp 3 blade and a 27 trophy plus for my 225efi on a 21XD AND I can turn both to the limiter. I'm no prop expert but I'd think a 26p prop would be a little small.

I would keep a very close eye on the SEI......thats all I am going to say about that. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
What year model is the engine? Its going to be hard to get it propped right and keep it off the limiter with that gearcase. That combo really needs a LWP gearcase. The boat is a little lighter than the newer ones. I would start off with the prop you have to get a good starting point.
A friend of mine had a set up like this except it was a newer boat, which is a 100 pounds or so heavier than yours. We never could get it propped right, but we also didnt get to spend much time with it either before he had to sell it. I know he has stayed in contact with the current owner and he has got it a little better. Maybe he will chime in and let us know what he has on it now.

What kind of numbers are you getting with the Hydromotive? I have a buddy that has a 26 Hydromotive that's been worked to about a 28 that I'm gonna try and if I like it I'll buy it.

camtra, cone that LU and you will fish at mid to upper 80's with ease. light you will see 90 http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

No he will not.
My partner has a 2000 20XDC 225 opti with a coned case and HP heads. It will only run 80. He has put a lot of time into setup. The other critical thing is the offset. What plate do you have? ALso the best prop for this setup is a 27 DAH Trophy. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: Found me a 225 Optimax for my Bullet!! Help with setup? (pijman)
I'm not getting the motor until a couple weeks. My '91 is lighter than the 2000 XDC so I would hope that I would get a little faster. I was hoping mid 80's and lower 80's loaded to fish. But i can't wait to test. Just was looking for a place to start.
Re: Found me a 225 Optimax for my Bullet!! Help with setup? (camtra)
I would NOT put a nose cone on that SEI lower unit. I would look for a good Mercury lower unit that is already or a good one to put one on but I would waste my money doing the work on the SEI. It will never live.
That is going to be the best set up you could run is with a LWP. It will be easier to get the rig set up.

10-4. I'm gonna try to sell or trade that SEI. I'm gonna look for a Sportmaster or a Merc lower that has been coned
Re: Found me a 225 Optimax for my Bullet!! Help with setup? (marty92xrd)
What he said.. I would run a junk prop also you may loose it...
Re: Found me a 225 Optimax for my Bullet!! Help with setup? (mgeod)
Thanks. I never heard of an SEI lower unit. The guy I'm buying it from said his lower went out and he bought that one. It's on a Ranger now and it's an older guy so I'm sure it's never been ran hard.

Re: Found me a 225 Optimax for my Bullet!! Help with setup? (bayoubullet)
I agree. I think right prop with scones case I should see mid 80's at least. And possibly 90 light.
