Boat racing & motor question
I have watched different boat racing on tv for several years. Formula 1 , Drag boats ect. If it is boat racing with outboards 90% of the time it has a Merc on the back of it. What is the reason that almost all race boats have Merc's on them. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
Re: Boat racing & motor question (BULLET FAN)
because they hold together in a modified condition better..........They are cheaper to build and the the kowedge base is imeasurably larger
I dream of OMC or Yamaha stock with regualar 87 gas but need a motor that will live over 6K

Mercury has the best by far in racing developement, Omc still dominates the smaller classes 2,3,and 4cyl but Mercury has got alot in the V6's now if you step up to Mod U which is unlimited OMC becomes strong again theres a guy named Ben Roberson that has a evinrude v8 that is the strongest motor I a\have ever seen or heard on a 22 for Burgess Tunnel boat that was amazing. Mercury sent some special stuff to Seebold just to out run him in the Nationals one year.

Re: Boat racing & motor question (Hydrilla)
Thats a bad mofo for sure! No other outboard in the world has "THAT" sound. It would usually depend on the course as to whether merc or Evilrude was taking home the checkers. The big V8's really shined on the longer courses, where as the 2.5's could handle them with no problems on the shorter tracks.
