Bullet Torque Steering Questions

I have 97 21 XDC with a 225 EFi.

I had it up to my fastest speed yet yesterday and wow does it have major torque steer to the right. Trimmed down some not really an issue but with trim all the way up in run position at 5400 rpm I have to really grab the wheel and hold it for dear life. I got the boat in the late Summer and am trying to get the best set up with what I have.

The motor is 2' below pad and the prop is a 27P. It does have the simple torque tab mounted on the drivers said of the skeg.

Any ideas to make some of this go away or is this normal?

What Lower unit do you have and what kind of 27P prop?

A bullet does not use alot of trim, so if your trimming it all the way out then thats problem #1, the next thing that got my attention was 2" below the pad. Depending upon which LU you have that motor needs to come up a bit. I'd start there and then we can move forward with getting you headed in the right direction. How much set back and what is your water pressure at WOT.. Looks like astandard fleetmaster for lower?? Any water inlet holes blocked off??

not sure on the lower unit. i assume it is the stock one for the 225efi.

I will have to measure the set back. I want to say 10 inches but will check.

So, when driving the boat near WOT I should not be trimming it all of the way up? It does not torque steer bad if I keep more boat in the water but gains mph as I trim on up. I had the motor at 1 1/2" but was getting some prop spin on hole shots so I lowered it back down. I am assuming the higher the unit then the less torque.

Should that torque tab be left on the drivers side? I might fish today so if so I will raise the motor and give it a shot. Thanks

I have a torquemaster gear case, and I am 1 inch below the pad, with a 14 inch rapid jack, jack plate and thats where it runs the best.... Hope that will help!!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Hydraulic steering is the only way to go and the safest!
