striped bass is a striper. there is a white bass that looks like a striper
Check out this link. I was wrong a striper and striped bass are the same. I was thinking of the white bass. This link will explain the difference.

striper mating with white bass also bring upon a fish called a Hybrid. Shorter then stripers, but usually fat and stocky like a whitebass. They are used to control bait fish/small fish population by wardens.
