When a dealer/source offers a Powerhead or new rebuilt motor already broken in, how is that accomplished ? I would think that it's run on a water dyno/brake to load up the rings thereby eliminating/reducing owner break in. Just curious........ http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
I believe most is done on the dyno..
Most will utilize a Dyno, while a few may actually mount the engine in a test tank, with a test wheel, and run the engine for a period of time.
I'm still trying to finish my new motor break in. If I understand this method correctly, than one could actually do the same thing with the boat on the trailer (still strapped down), hang a bigger than normal pitch wheel on it to load the motor up, put it in the water then run some RPM's at various numbers (nothing to high) and accomplish the same thing ????????

Would require a substantially LOWER than normal pitch prop (test wheels actually are smaller diameter).
Your idea will "work"... but there's always the possibility of sweeping debris from the bottom of the lake into the prop, or up into the water intakes (neither of which are desirable).
Personally- I prefer the "live boat and engine, run on the boat with an appropriate propeller" method. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
