Called the guy to get the serial number from the motor so I could insure it before I brought it home. He said there is no serial number on the motor. He gave me a number that was on the paperwork from when he bought it. Might not go pick up a motor tomorrow after all. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif

Ithought older motors didn't have serial numbers on them.

My old 1982 evinrude even has the serial number on it

Maybe he just doesn't know where it is located on the motor.
In Texas, the motor is Titled!!!!
MERC's & Mariners had S/N Plates on the motor bracket as far back as 84 to my knowledge and probably further. Sounds HOT to me. I wouldn't touch it. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif
