Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
Jacob, email me some pics and colors. I'm looking to buy a few just as soon give my money to you than bass pro, cabelas, or academy.
Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
It's all good.
Give a few to your friends, let them try the product out. (Not just you)
That should get you started, the power of the word is much greater than all the advertisement you can throw at it.
So hand a few out to your friends!!

Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
Straight up Jacob....Have the fun of creating your own jigs....sell a few to friends..etc. Once you try to fill "orders" to put on a shelf somewhere they will give you shelf space and you carry yourself....If something else comes along they will move them in to a box in the back...There have been many to try "Academy" type stores and when the product doesn't move fast enough...Straight to the bargain bin. Then people will think the product wasn't good. Most will tell you to travel with the boat shows....They happen @ the same time as pre spawn and will get VERY expensive...The best way to do it would be the internet and toss a couple here and there on peoples boats to "use" You will come out cheaper.....WebSites if you do it yourself are not expensive...I have info if you need...I pay 40.00 a quarter for mine http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: So what would you do?? (Kyp)
I would rather give my money to someone than a big name store.
Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
I agree 100%. I order all my jigs online cause all the ones at the local stores are horrible. Especially football jigs. I usually fish either Santone jigs, V&M jigs or oldham jigs. I would definitely be interested in buying a few from you.
Re: So what would you do?? (cajunsmitty)
I have been ordering my jigs from lock jaw jigs lately. They are much better quality then what is sold in the stores. Maybe you could try making a bunch and start selling them to your buds and see how it goes. The last thing you want to do is ruin something you enjoy for a few bucks. Once the pleasure is gone it becomes a job and unless you want a second one of those test the waters before you dive in. Just my 2 cents, good luck!!
Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
Can you possible send me the information on your jigs?
Pictures, color options etc. k.normand(at)live(dot)com
I may take a few off your hands.
Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
Give some out as a door prise at tourneys etc. If you get someone to draw up a color graphic insert for the jig package i can run some for you to get you going. Also, small stores, fisherman stops will put them out for you if it is beneficial to them
Re: So what would you do?? (jcdogfish)
I'd buy from ya, if they are worth a damn. I talked with the guy I get mine from now the other night and he said it's fun but alot of competition out there
Re: So what would you do?? (SUSHII 21XD)
As of now, I havent bought the equipment to start doing it. I am going to talk with the man who created thumper jigs in the next few weeks. I grew up with him and I think he is going to set time to give me advice. It not written in stone yet, but its an idea that I have. I dont have any for sell yet, but like i said i am in the "wondering" process.
You can view this thread to see some of them I have made. If I decide to go this route, I am going to develop my own mold that is different than the rest. I like to use thick skirts and good hooks which are hard to find locally. I like 60+ strands on mine bc I feel it gives it a better fall and better presentation. Thanks for the advice guys....... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
I make my skirts for the same reason...and to add color normally you don't find...I got my hands on some bulk living rubber and I combine it with the silicone to get more movement http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
a hobby is fun, work sometimes is not. i wouldn't let myself get to overloaded so that it's not enjoyable anymore. start off small and try to get as much feed back as possible from your customers of like and dislikes before you get to big with it. JMO! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

smitty gilbert harrell that started santone is a good friend of mine. He used to be in pelican bass club here in BR years ago. I liked his jigs and still have a dozen or so ut he has sold the company i havent fooled with them too much since. But if they are still the same the are not to bad.
Jacob all bs aside its hard to make enough of them to be worth the time you puttin in. As i am sure Jimbo will tell you that you liable to find yourself working for 6.00/hr unless you try to sell them for 5.00 a piece and we both no how that would work out. Only way Gilbert got Santone rollin was to get a good design and have the heads made in mexico, then tide the skirt colors he wanted some copies of some slam dunkls i sent him, them got somebody makin them by the 1000 and putting them together and baggin them himself.Make yours sell a few to your buddies and dont make too much work out of it or you will find its not fun anymore!!!!!!! thats why as much as i like foolin with boats if i cant make as much money per day as i would on a day of OT at work i wont touch it i will just go work ot at work!
Re: So what would you do?? (DOUGMCGEEFTD)
Gilbert Herald?? Yeah I stayed with him at a camp in October at Toledo. Great guy. I got a couple of buddies that all fish stren and flw together with him.
Re: So what would you do?? (cajunsmitty)
Gilbert use to fish with the old crew around here. He still running that old ragedy ranger??????? havent talked to him in a while curious to see why he sold santone? usually here from him once every month or so but havent talked to him in 5-6 months. i was asking frank yesterday if he had heard rom him? . but he hadnt either.
Re: So what would you do?? (DOUGMCGEEFTD)
yep still in that yellow and black 519 Ranger. I fished with one of my buddies this weekend that fishes with Gilbert and he said he is working on a new jig. I wanna say it's gonna be Combat Jigs. Not positive.
Re: So what would you do?? (fishnhunt)
Jacob I started the same way making them for myself and few friends, hit Ebay and seen i could make money at it as well. With the Twins coming soon I had to decide run with my full time job and jigs until i can run with jigs alone and quit working for the Man.lol. I tell ya I wish i would have waited sometimes until the time was a bit better.then other days i want to just quit my full time job and do the jigs. Its alot of work to get quality jigs, and things in a flow i am still working on the BIG picture lol.
If you dont work a real job or have kids I would say you could do whatever your heart says to just know its alot of work in the end and it comes fast if your putting Quality baits out there.I atm have over 200 Jigs to build by 02/26/10 lol and with 9mo old twins a 5yr old,Wife and a 40hr week trailer factory job so I get maybe 4hrs sleep every night after I am done.Fishings come to a stand still darn near because my family needs that time rather than me on the water LOL. I am not saying Lock Jaw Jigs is or was a bad thing just WOW its overwhelming sometimes the amount of time i now have to put into these, and my Quality WILL NOT suffer my sleep time will LOLOL.
Do what you want to do and do it the best you can Jacob http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif,Have fun doing it because it will be a job before you know it.lol Hope this helps you out and not trying to scare you away from anything I am just saying First hand I know I fell into jigs and now am barried by them LOL http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif
I come back to edit this because I forgot to add that Its a GREAT feeling hearing the feedback from those who have your jigs, getting requests on hats, shirts, patches, and more getting text messages with pictures in them coming home from work after spending time with the family for a short checking Emails and seeing Feedback emails, pictures ect and requests on custom jigs that they know you CAN do that nobody else can or will take the time to. thanks to all those who do that its great feeling let me tell ya Jacob!
