Prop Nut Question (250 Pro XS)
Why is there no washer with bend down tabs on my 2008 250 Pro XS. Every motor I have ever owned has had one. I bought the boat in May and decided to change the lower unit oil. The nut and washers were so black that I never noticed that it didn't have one. I also noticed that the threads on the prop shaft were bent a little on the end and little shavings of brass came off the nut when I removed it. Do you think it would be wise to try and get a new nut? I tightened it as much as I could with my plastic prop wrench. Is it possible to get it tight enough with this wrench?
Re: Prop Nut Question (JRBjr)
Your engine has a Torquemaster Gearcase, and utilizes a "Solid, Fat-Shaft" High Performance Hub.
No tab washer is utilized with this hub. A beveled washer is utilized to help maintain constant torque (one of the three washers behind the nut has a slight "dish" to it).
Probably not achieving proper torque with the plastic wrench.... the torque spec on this hub is 55 ft. lbs. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
As far as your prop nut is concerned, I'm of the "if in doubt, throw it out" mentality on that subject. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
