thinking of repowering with used optimax
I've got an older Cajun 209xxl that is still in good shape but myengine is dying. Looking for a used optimax. I've heard some models made less horsepower than others, and some of the older ones had to have premium gas. Can you tell which ones were the best? I fish a lot and run even more. What will I need to make the swap from a mid 90s carb engine to a dfi?
thanks

IMO.... I'd stick with any 2003 and up Optimax, that's been checked by someone with a good working knowledge of these engines.
Many of your rigging components will work for this engine as well... depending on the year of the engine you choose, an adapter cable may be needed for the keyswitch harness.
You will also want to consider a Smartcraft Instrument (such as the MercMonitor, or AT LEAST a System Monitor). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: thinking of repowering with used optimax (BigCranks)
i have an 06 or 07 opti, and i would not have anything else. i had a javalin 389 with a evenrude intruder 150hp before, now i have a triton with 225opti and this motor uses less fuel, ALOT less fuel than the carberated inturder i use to have. the inturder was a 1995 or 96 model. to give you an idea of how much more fuel efficent the opti is... 100$ in fuel in the intruder would give me about 2 days on the lake and i HAD to fill up again. i can run 3-4 days with the opti and could probably push another day on the lake if i stayed out of WOT. the diffrence is just unbelivable. you will especially notice a diffrence in acceleration when you are on plane. its a good investment you wont be disappointed.
