Merc Quick Clean vs. Merc Fuel System Treatment & Stabilizer???

When should one use the Merc Quick Claen Engine Treatment vs. the Merc Fuel System Treatment & Stabilizer? My dealer says I should use the new StarBrite product "Star Tron" Enzyme Fuel Treatment. Someone help me understand this additive stiff!!
I run a 2005 Merc Racing 250 XS with 93 octane fuel.

Ask Don or Redline to confirm this but A) Merc recommends using both Merc quikclean & Merc fuel stabilizer each and every time you add gas to your boat. With today's ethanol fuels you really need to add the fuel stabilizer especially if the gas is not going to be used fully for over 14 days. Regardless your supposed to add the quickclean every time you add gas period!

Another thought I'd think about with your motor is that Ethanol based gas looses it's octane faster than MBTE treated gas and since your 05 250 XS is a high compression motor it's even more important that you stabilize your gas so it doesn't loose octane I believe 91 is the minimum octane for that motor so you don't have to loose much to wind up with gas that's to low in octane and then it's detonation and boom http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif

On Mercury Fuel System Treatment & Stabilizer (or Marine Stabil): "Fuel should be stabilized any time that it will not be CONSUMED AND REPLACED WITH FRESH FUEL WITHIN 15 DAYS". Today's fuels begin degrading/souring 15 DAYS from the time they are removed from "underground storage tanks". We regularly see "gel" forming by 30 days, and "solids" forming by 45 days. And then there is "Octane Rating"... which also degrades rapidly! I agree with Eli here... on a 2005 model that requires 91 octane MINIMUM... there's not much room for "aged fuel". http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif

Hi Griff-I have been using the combination of Mercury Quickleen,Startron, and Stabil in my Pro XB 250 EFI for at least two years now. My motor requires the 93 octane and I use the Quickleen for minimization of carbon and clean injectors,Startron as a preventative for the 10 percent Ethanol additive in the gasoline, and Stabil in double dose for prevention of gasoline octane degradation.
