LOW OIL LIGHT HORN KEEPS COMING ON 2001 merc 225 efi
My low oil light keeps coming on.The tank is full. How does a shade tree guy check the tank to see if it is a sensor tank problem or a wirring problem between the tank and my dash?the motor was off last week by a fiberglass shop but they claimed they put it all back together. TO BE FAIR to the fiberglass shop when I first got the boat back from the shop I took it out and the low oil light started coming on right away, I filled the oil tank on the motor and the light went off for the rest of the weekend until the last run back in the ramp .Now it stays on at all times.

Have you bled the air out of the upper tank with the engine idling????
If you can provide your serial #, we'll be glad to try and point you in the right direction. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

I have not bled any air out of the upper tank but I have ran serveral mile with the horn sounding thinking it was just a sensor problem.I will get the serial # tonight after work.

Missing a digit from serial number.....
Bleed the air from the engine mounted oil tank with engine idling trim should be set at or near level (placing the "air" bubble in the tank where it can escape (the oil level needs to be within 1/2" of top of tank BEFORE you start the engine).
Allow the engine to idle, oil level will rise. Firmly snug cap as soon as oil spills from the opening at the cap. See if buzzer persists.

I may be pass that because I have ran the boat for two weekend now and put about 45 gallons of gas thru it and still the low oil buzzer lights up.

Respectfully, it would be a good idea to "assume" the warning light IS functioning properly, until "proven" otherwise. Essentially, the warning light is your notification that something critical has/is occuring, and should be addressed promptly.
I would very cautious about running it any more until the cause of the light has been determined & corrected.... ultimately, you'd want to "shut it down promptly" on a solid warning horn, or any light indicating an oil or temp issue (safest measure).

It was not the solid horn it was three long beeps .the same sound that comes on when the tank on the motor oil is low.does the three long beep also indicated and oil injection problem?

It can- especially a low oil level condition. Consult your owner's manual for specific horn warnings (in 2001, they were different than they are today, of course).

I experienced the oil alarm once, I did what Don said about the engine mounted tank, after a while the alarm sounded again and the small tank was about 1/2" low again. I was able to tightened the main tank lid a little more, after that the engine mounted oil tank stayed full and no more alarm. I must have had a air leak at the main tank lid not allowing the pressure to build and force oil to the top tank.
