Just about got into it at the gas station
A male worker at the gas station was talking with a female worker and she asked him if he was going to join the AF still. There was some other customer who I assume was his mother at the counter. The young man didn't answer the question but the lady at the counter said " I hope not with quality of people in our military nowadays".
I was very suprised that I bit my tongue and said nothing. Pretended I didn't hear it. But the girl behind the counter knew who I was because I had been in there in uniform many times. She looked at me and knew what was up. I guess I was so suprised by what she said I was just in shock. It's usually just the opposite.

Well with the way the media only tending to talk about the BAD things that our military personnel do (rape a kid, demorilize people at guantanamo bay, etc)....What do you expect to hear out of the "sheep" in our society.
How often do they make a real big deal out of the selfless, heroing acts that are performed by our enlisted guys every day??? NOT MUCH!
***That doesn't help their agenda too much in most cases*** http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif Rant over now.
Sorry...I know i'm not from Kansas...Just happened to see the post, and couldn't help but comment.

I thought about it for a minute. But it may have gotten ugly.
Todays military is the best trained, most well equipped this country has had to date.

I'd bet that statement was a knee-jerk reaction to the puppy story. On the other hand, how bright are you if you're working behind the counter at the gas station? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif to ALL of our military!
Re: Just about got into it at the gas station (Champer196)
Just turn around and in you best Jack Nickleson Voice say :
"Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post."
