Thanksgiving Hunt Pics

Had one of my most memorable goose hunts ever this morning. Had my dad out along with the regular crew for our first big bird shoot of the year. We finished with our 8-man limit of honks and 3 banded birds, which are a true trophy around here as we just don't see many, let alone three. They all came out of the same flock and there was one bird that got away out of the flock that was probably banded as well. We were working several groups at once and I watched these 4 until I knew they were going to land and then turned my attention to the other birds trying to work them in as well. I took my eye off the 4 that were landing and right as they set down one of the guys yelled the two words we all live to hear..."Neck Collar!!!". Luckily it had landed right behind me and I was first up. Popped him and we shot 2 of the others and sure enough, they were all banded.

Also had the opporunity to have my cousin along, who is a professional photographer and came along just to take pics. He ended up with some pretty awesome shots that will definitely end up in frames on the wall. Perfect way to remember the perfect day. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Okay, im not a goose hunter, what is a banded bird, and why are they special?????

A few birds are banded in locations throughout the U.S. and Canada in order to track their movement. When you shoot one you call in the number and they send you a certificate with info on where it was banded, when it was banded, etc. The "trophy" of the waterfowling world. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
