I have a 08 Skeeter ZX225 with a freaking monster trolling motor. I'm thinking about throwing away the 36 volt 100lb + thrust Minn and buying a nice Motorguide. Any of you guys use 36 volt trolling motors and if so why? just curious.

I dont use a 36v trolling motor but one of my partners does. As for why? Size of the boat for one. 100lb thrust 36v will pull a 21ft boat around alot easier than say a 72lb 24v. Plus a 36v trolling motors will last longer than a 24v. If you have ever been on KY lake in 20mph wind trying to fish a ledge, you will wish for a 48v!
It all depends on your situation. If you have a smaller boat, say 18.5 and dont fish 8-10 hour days. Or fish smaller lakes without alot of wind/current 24v is fine.
I have a 72lb24v Motor Guide Tour on a 18.5 Triton and will never own another Motor Guide. Minn Kota is the way to go. Motor Guides make too much noise and are not a realiable as they once were.
I've had nothing but a 24V MG on my TR21 since I bought it new. I did buy one last year and went from a 72lb to 80 lb. I've never had a problem with mine and always had plenty of power.
I know Kenny has a 24V MK on his TR20 as well.
Unless your just fishing tons of current I don't see needing a 36V.

I agree. I fish Ky lake frequently and feel my motor is just too damn big. I guess I'm just partial to Motorguide.
If you trade out your M.K. 36 volt for a M.G. then, can't say it on the air but you are crazy. Really the 101 is a GREAT trolling motor and no way would i trade it for a M.G.109,82 OR 48. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Can't beat the 36 volt trolling motor if you are fishing a lake with current. I can run a 24 dry on a windy day with current on Kentucky lake. Never had an issue with a 36 volt
Love my 36v MK http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
I'm loving my 36v. Can't believe I lived so long without one.
love my 36V motorguide
the more batteries the longer I can fish...if you got a 36v... and its too powerful turn down the variable speed. : http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
Nothing but 36v It is awesome on Ky. lake you can fish all day
If your just gonna throw it away I'll catch it. Mines about done.
I can fish all day on KY Lake with my 24v.
I can fish all day and night on KY Lake with my 24v. I prefer to fish main river ledges. But then again my hull is a little lighter http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
I fish the tailwaters below KY and Barkley Dams all the time in the summer, and never have an issue.
This is with a 21' Bullet w/ Optima batteries. My last one had a Maxxum 80 and this new one has a 82 Tour Edition.

+1,spend enough time on Ky with wind and current you'll never own a 24v again.
I would also like to add that going with the longer shaft has its ups. When your on KY lake fighting a strong north or south wind and it's throwing rollers on you that long shaft will help you stay in place easier by not coming out of the water on every single wave.
I have a long shaft 101 Minn-Kota and wouldnt have anything else.
I fish KY lake, barren, green, and rough river most of the time.
At KY there is no other TM to have. At the others its still really nice.
The long shaft is a must for really windy day when you get big rollers.
I put it on about 80% point it in the wind and let it eat. it will help stabilize the boat so u arent bouncing all over the place and the prop flying out of the water.
I had a 36V motor guide that came on the boat but took it off within about a month of buying the boat and have never regreted it.
