The F-18s are rocking it out right now! They just buzzed my office and my computer screen started shaking! WOO HOO!!! Guess they're doing practice runs today since it's supposed to rain tomorrow.

They have been doing touch and go's out here. They like to punch it when they are making those sweeping corners.

That sounds pretty cool. My family and I have never gone to Thunder. Do you have any advice as to where a good spot to watch it from is? I have a 4 and 7 year old. I am not from Louisville originally and do not spend any time downtown so I have been holding off going down not really knowing the area or what to expect. Where do you guys park? Thanks

When I go on the KY side, I usually park in the Shriners parking lot downtown - I'd much rather see my $10 parking fee go to a good cause than into someone's pocket.
Anywhere on the Great Lawn or on a hill at the playground is a good place. You'll see everything from there. Air Show starts at 3 and runs continuous until the fireworks, which start at 9:30 and go until 10. Be sure and get there early for a spot. 11 a.m. or noon at the latest. Some people are there at 6 a.m. for a spot! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif
Take a cooler with drinks, food, etc. Bathrooms are a nightmare - usually a 45 minute wait, so keep that in mind when you drink too much water. Dogs aren't allowed. Folding chairs and a tarp is a good thing to take, so as to mark off your "area". A lot of people take a kid's wagon to pack all their gear.
Luckily my office is on the river on the Indiana side - our parking lot is roped off and have our own bathrooms to use. The view of the fireworks isn't the best, but that's the tradeoff...and I'll gladly make it every time. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
If you've never been, I would highly recommend it. The air show is AWESOME! F-14s, F-16s, F-22, bombers, cargo planes, stunt planes, etc. - it's great!

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna see if the wife wants to try and go this year. If not I'll hookup the boat and head to Nolin or Rough.

I've watched it from the river twice and that's awesome to see those fighers flying over head. I've got some friends with big boats that we normally go out on...never seen a bass boat tied up amogst the big ones though. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif My buddy has taken his 19' runabout out there several times though.

Yeah, they're staying at the gault house, talked to one of them last night when they got in from their practice. VERY cool guys. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

It is awesome to see those guys flying those bad boys. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif The Blue Angels are based at Pensacola Naval Air Station, about 30 miles east of where I live down here. We've gone over there in the mornings on week days when they practice. You watch them for free! It's a great show. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif Once in a while, they will fly over here.

we were at thunder right on the riverfront right smack down in all the action....we got home back in Lexington at 2 am. We were struck in traffic for 2 hours and everywhere I thought I could turn and get to I-64 the police had it closed. I will watch on TV anymore. The fireworks were awesome the planes were just as good but the traffic was unbelievable.
