17-20 feet? I night fish Kentucky Lake all of the time and most of the time my boat is positioned in less than that. Do they ever come up shallow at night at Dale? I've had a few nice smallies this summer on Kentucky at night and most of them have been in less than 5 feet. I've never fished Dale Hollow....What's the difference in why the fish are so deep there, especially at night?
Re: Friday Night @ Dale Hollow (KyBigBassMan)
17" to 20" size fish. I think it is mainly because this is a deep lake and the smallies move into the deep water with the shad, yes I have seen them right on the bank too, i've also seen smallies caught in 50' of water on Dale.
Re: Friday Night @ Dale Hollow (Slow Rollin)
Those are some nice ones! I've had a hard time catching fish at night down there. I'm ready for some fall fishing.

Two totally different impoundments...Ky Lake is low land reservoir that is a lot farther below sea level than Dale Hollow. Ky Lake is in the low lying farm land of western KY. Dale Hollow is a high land reservoir located in the hilly/steep terrain. The water is much deeper at Dale in fact I rarely use my depth finder when running the main lake...try that at Ky Lake and you can get in trouble real quick http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif

Dale Hollow is very infertile, very clear, and very deep.
Shad and other baitfish prefer not to stay high in the water column due to extreme light penetration and other factors. The only relief is that of deeper water.
Fish follow bait, if the bait is deep, so are the bass http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
I was there last weekend, catching them same depth as Slowrollin.
Same deal. Even in the fall the majority of big fish will still be relatively deep. 15 to 20. Learn to fish deep, it will pay you back over and over and over.

Thanks for clearing up that oversite. I missed it the first time. 15'-30' is even more interesting. It would be tough to get used to slow rolling a spinnerbait that deep at night. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

It's still a little too warm for you isn't it? I thought you did best around the 4-18 degree air temp. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

What do you mean infertile? There is a ton of grass on that lake??
Greg, did you fish with Gordon or Greg Bris?
Re: Friday Night @ Dale Hollow (Alliston64)
Nice fish...but you need to be in Henderson trying to learn something from Louis!!!

Bris
It is very infertile.
There are no algae blooms, which, in turn keeps the bait down in the deep stuff.
Thats also why the water is gin clear. No algae, no green water
