Kentucky Lake Assistance Please
Hey Guys, I live in Bowling Green KY and fish a small club here. We have one of our Tournaments coming up this weekend on KY/Barkley. It is a trailer tournament so you can fish either lake. I dont get to pre-fish much down there because of work and the drive. However I was able to fish Barkley the past couple weekends. Fished in and around the little river area on ledges and have done decent, but not great. I think KY lake will produce the winning sack.
I know the ledge bite is good right now but have very little experiance fishing on KY lake ledges. I was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions on ledges to fish in around the Ken Lake/Fenton Area. I will be trailering out of Canton. So I would like to put in at Ken Lake/Fenton. I have a TR186 so depending upon the weather I dont know how much running I will do. It usually kicks up 20 mph winds when I am there! LOL I fished the Sugar Bay area in the Spring and at Night and done well. Just would like some help if anyone is willing. Thanks For the help.

I wish you good luck in your tournament. It's not likely that you'll get many folks who want to share "their ledges" http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif I hope you do find someone to help you out. I don't know of any or I'd tell you! They won't share them with me either. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Good luck getting information out of people. No offense, but I don't know anybody (wish I did http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif ) who'd be willing to give you info on their ledges. If you're dead set on fishing KY Lake then I'd run about 5 miles south of Blood River and start picking around in the bays on the LBL side. It's really not THAT long of a run. Should only take about 25 minutes in your boat. Look for grass beds and then start fishing around them with senkos, Texas rigged worms and shakey heads. Grass is the key. No grass, no fish. Also, while you're down there take a quick look at your KY Lake map. If you see a hump or nice drop on a channel bend go ahead and give the ledge a try just for the heck of it. You never know, you might get lucky. As for the ledge fish, the only thing I had any luck on last weekend was a green pumpkin baby brushhog.
However, when you first put your boat in Saturday morning you need to hit the main lake points and pockets off those points with buzzbaits. You should be able to get a few quick keepers this way before the sun comes up too much.
As for the wind, I don't see us having another Saturday like this past one. It's rare to get that much wind this time of year, IMO.

I throw shallow cranks early and deep cranks a little later on the main lake points in the Sugar Bay area and do real good...... http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Naw, he was catching them on a 2oz floating spoon thrown at the big green bouys on the main lake. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: Kentucky Lake Assistance Please (mkmsports41)
I had a customer in yesterday that said he caught the heck out of fish beating the banks late afternoon and early morning, early morning he caught them on a top water and also real late in the afternoon. No real big fish but plenty of 14 to 18 inch fish.
Re: Kentucky Lake Assistance Please (RangerRodney)
The way to get Rodney to help ya on the ledges is to buy a new $60,000 Ranger & he'll through in some waypoints. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: Kentucky Lake Assistance Please (Slopfishin)
Thanks for the help and advise. I was not real concerned about getting someone to tell me what ledge they fish. Just more concerned/curious if it is worth while trying to fish ledges in and around that area, or how productive they are. I have been studying up on my map and GPS and found a few, but with no practice didnt know if it would be worth while. I have been able to fish ledges on Barkley the past few weeks and come up with 12lbs (4 fish limit tournament) But it will take about 16lbs this weekend and I dont think I can do it on Barkley.
I have also thought about running down to Blood and spending the majority of the tournament there. Like I said before I have done real well in Sugar Bay in the spring and night. I may try running north and hitting all the main lake points.
