Found this today when changing the Lower unit oil. (2002 225 HO) Kind of looks like water to me. I wanted to conform with you guys. Over 25 years in boating and this would be the first time to have a lower unit leak.
If you guys confirm, Around how much am I looking at to have the unit resealed ?? Thanks

Yessir, you do have a small leak somewhere. The last vacumn and pressure test I had done was around 65.00. For the easy thing, pull the prop and look for line around the prop shaft.
Prop Shaft is clean. Unit has never had any fishing line around it.
What am I looking at to reseal the unit ?? Ballpark ??
Did you check the o rings on the drain and vent plugs???? Sometimes they get baggy or cracked and leak . Theg are like a buck a piece at the evinrude dealer . That's what I had to do this spring
On a 10 year old motor you probably have wear on the driveshaft seals and possibly on the shift shaft oring.

On the plug seals, I do not have o-rings. I have a hard plastic ring around each plug.
Seahorse, I believe you are probably right. Most likely prop shaft seals. after looking at the manual, not a job for me. Thanks

Hoss was referring to the Drive shaft and Shift shaft, which means the lower has to be dropped to access.
Point Taken Bassmeister. In a case like this, would you do a pressure test and just replace the bad seal or would it be better on a 10 year lower unit to just reseal it completely at all water seals.

Are you sure that there is not another water source, like drainage from the lower unit. Did you notice water draining first from the lower unit and then oil? Just a thought. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
Thanks to all. I value all the opinions here. I also have a good friend for many years who is an Evinrude Master Tech. (as some here are ) In addition to all your opinions I asked him what he would do. He stated the following:
As others have stated here, It is a very, very small leak. I was told that one drop of water could create what I found. So Small that it would be virtually impossible to find the exact seal that caused this. He advised that at this point he would not attempt to repair until it got worse, if it got worse at all. With such a small amount of moisture, it could have been any number of things which could have caused this and it may not even show up when changing the lube next season.
Only other option would be to reseal the entire unit which would have a small risk of creating other leaks. So, monitor lube closely and see how she looks season to season.
I am providing this advise so that others who may have a similar situation can make an educated decision on how to handle their specific situation.

that could be from condensation!rest of oil is not the norm looking milky with water in it.i would change then run and check it again.large amouts of water will drain out before oil and rest of oil will be tan milky.
