bonehead of the day award (long)
I fished Rough today. I never really got anything consistent but it didn't turn out to bad. Man the boneheads were out thick today. After much consideration it turns out there is a tie though. One, I'm fishing a point that is very long, shallow on top with very steep sides (George's Branch for those that know the lake). Here comes this runabout pulling a tube. Their are heading right for me going about 30MPH. I start waving my arms when they get about 50 yards from me and they just barely turn away and go on top of the point that I'm fishing and start setting the boat down maybe 20 ft from me. They all have freakin mohawks and their faces are painted in what looked some kind of indian war paint. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif I ask the guy if he knows the lake very well and he says "HELL YEAH I KNOW THE DAMN LAKE, I've been coming here since I was a kid." So I ask him if he knows he's in 1 ft of water. He firmly reply's "AWWWW BS". Then he punches on it and the prop hits bottom, a VERY rocky bottom. He doesn't let out of it and finnally he either spun the hub or tore up the lower unit. I am absolutely dying laughing at this point. His friends are making fun of him and everything. So I ask him again how well he knows the lake and tells me to go to hell. I moved on to the point on the other side and he gets on his cell phone looking for some to come and get them. It was hillarious.
Next came about an hour later. The mohawk, face paint guys are gone. I'm fishing the hump at the mouth of george's branch now. There's a houseboat anchored on one side of the point and the guy is fumbling aound trying to pull the anchor. He finally gets it up and tells his wife to drive while he cleans the anchor. he's in the bottom of the boat in the front she's up top driving. The top of the hump is about 2 ft deep right now. She starts heading for the hump and I start screaming at her. I tell her it gets really shallow there and she SCREAMS " I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING" The guy hear's me and looks in the water and see's the bottom and starts screaming REVERSE, REVERSE. To late. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif Yup they beached a freakin 40 ft houseboat. It almost knocked the guy out of the front of the boat and she almost flipped over the rail up top. After he gets done cussing her out she yells over at me "Can you help us get off of this?" I'm in a bassboat and their in a 40ft houseboat and they want me to pul them off of the hump. I tell them there is no way in hell I can get them off of this hump. So yet again someone is making a phone call. I have no clue who they would have called to get that boat off of there but that was going to be EXPENSIVE.

Don't you think it is funny how many people say they know the lake, but really don't know what is just under the surface? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif It is a learning experience, I found out the hard way on Barkley last fall, and I admit I did not know the lake.

It sounds like you had a good day...not to wish anyone any bad luck, but I agree, the mohawk guys had it coming http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Usually I start fishing at night this time of year so I haven't really seen many of the boneheads but I'm trying to learn how to get them in the heat too and I swear the number of moron's on the water has just exploded. There were people doing stupid stuff all over that lake yesterday. There was the guy pulling a tube through the no ski zone by the beach at north fork because "the water patrol NEVER comes up here." saw him a few minutes pulled over by the water patrol. another boat in Tules creek pulling a tube (Tules creek is an underwater forrest). 4 teenagers on 1 jet ski jumping peoples wakes hit one right where 2 wakes came together and it looked like someone set off a grenade in the seat the way the bodies went flying. I had to run over and make sure they were OK it looked so bad. Of course they were all dying laughing and talking about doing it again.I had 5 or 6 boats buzz me about 20 ft away about half way planed out. It was awful. sorry for the rant but where the hell did all these people get boats? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
