They said in the paper here that the state could go back 5 http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif years to collect back taxes. They didn't know if they were going to do that.
Back-taxes are a way of saying, "we screwed up the budget now pay up", I think everyone should pay their fair share, but one year at a time, none of this back-pay crap.
Personally I think paying personal property tax on a boat every year is crap to the max. That is why you see so many boats down here registered in Tenn and sitting in Ky driveways.
That is true. However if I have to pay $300 a year for my old bass boat why should these guys get off scott free with a million dollar boat. The loop pole was only for big boats. It would be like your neighbor being exempt from his property tax because he had a 5000 or more sq. ft. house but you had to pay becuse you had a 4900 sq. ft. house.
I see your point and agree with it for sure...but it still sucks to pay those taxes. If you cruise the big marinas on Ky/Barkley you will find that most of the big boats down here are registered in other states also...I haven't read the article so I don't know if they have closed that loophole but if they haven't I expect we will see more of those big boats with out of state registrations but docked here year round.
