Went down to Cedar Creek Lake this weekend
I fiddled around and finally got down to the lake around noon on Saturday. What an awesome day!!! Even better this was my first spring with the new boat. With my old merc the first day of the fishing season usually consisted of 30minutes trying to get the boat to start. Not this time the optimax fired right up!! O' how I love it!!
Anyways the wind was kicking a little so I went and found a nice 8-10ft flat right by 15' on one side and shallow 3' on the other. The fish in this lake love white grubs early in the year so I planned on using baits that had some white on them. I started off using a spot remover jig head with a white split tail spinner bait trailer plastic. Had 1 come up on it at the boat and broke 2 others off. Switched over to a suspending jerk bait with white bottom. 2nd cast 2lb smally, 4th cast 3.5lb largemouth.
I would have caught more but with my new ceramic bearings my reels where having a time with my line. I spent more time working on line than anything else. At least I realized with these new bearing I had to pop out more of the plastic pieces on my reel brake to keep the line from tangling up. Not only that but for some idiodic reason I religned all the poles I did not plan on using that day.
Talked to some guys at the dock around 4:30 and they had caught 10 with one being 4 lbs. It was a heck of a day, hopefully this weekend I can get out a little longer and going to get ALL my rods ready this time. Water was 46 degrees and the fish are already getting aggressive and looking pretty fat!

Sounds like you had a great day Billy http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
I'd like to get out to Cedar Creek this year sometime, have heard some good things about that lake. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
Re: Went down to Cedar Creek Lake this weekend (Bluegrass)
Well the lake was producing 3lb'ers 2 years ago and now its got some 4 and 5lbers or more. The great thing about this lake is NO JET SKI'S!!!
I can't wait until the lake starts producing some bass in the 8lb range.

Billy its hard to beat the way bass try to kill a jerk bait especially those smallies!!!!

Smallmouth bass at Cedar Creek Lake
Did the KDFW stock them when they impounded the lake or were they already in they creek when they dammed it up. What about spotted bass do they have them in the lake also. I told my self last year that I need to go check that lake out but I never made the trip. The lake has been impounded for 3-4 years ? so... I would guess that the quality size fish are starting to show up.

This lake opened 2 years ago to the general public I believe. I think they waited 4 years before actually opening it to the public.
Fish in the lake:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Sport fish populations at the lake will consist primarily of largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie, and channel catfish. Prior to filling the lake and stocking, remnant fish populations in the stream will be eradicated. This procedure will eliminate undesirable fish species such as green sunfish, bullhead catfish, and carp. Removal of these species will reduce competition with the more desirable sport fish that will be stocked as the lake begins to fill. In all, 2,500 10-inch and 15,000 5-inch largemouth bass, 20,000 3-in black crappie, 180,000 1-inch bluegill, 120,000 1-inch redear sunfish, and 8,000 9-inch and 30,000 1-inch channel catfish will be stocked. These stocked fish will grow rapidly and provide for an immediate fishery. </TD></TR></TABLE>
I do know they shocked a bunch of big fish in Herrington and took them down to Cedar Creek. 2 years ago I caught several 3lb'ers so I expect some big fish now. Not to mention the bass in this lake look so healthy!!!
Oh yeh I was completely suprised when I loaded my GPS up with my hot spots elite card and this lake is included!!! THAT ROCKS!!
Re: Went down to Cedar Creek Lake this weekend (fishingmarlin)
I have talked to a person that has fished that lake a few times and he also said something about the KDFW putting some bigger fish in the lake. He did not know that they came from Herrington. I do find it kind of strange that they would bring fish in from another lake. I am sure that the fish from Herrington are good and healthy but it would only take one bad fish to ruin a 700 acre lake (I think that lake is 700 acres) but that sounds about right for the KDFW. That lake is under a trophy management program with the size and creel limits. If they want to make it a trophy lake why would they draw down the water so they could build a beach? It wont be long until you see houseboats and large pleasure crafts pulling skiers. I know they are prohibited right now but all someone has to do is know the right person in Frankfort and show them a little $ and I bet the good ol state of Ky will forget about a trophy lake. Lets just hope that they stay with the orginal plan.

Hey, where is this cedar creek lake? sounds nice for now, until they open it up to jet skis anyway
Re: Went down to Cedar Creek Lake this weekend (RD3)
Cedar Creek is just outside Stanford east towards Crab Orchard on 150.
This could become a trophy lake if they continue to keep a close watch on it. At times it is heavily fished, maybe it will take some of the pressure off Herrington. My biggest to date is a 5.25 LM, but every one has been a fat healthy fish. I just hope they keep the lake lice off it forever.
