replacing diaphragm pump with electric pump on FICHT

I have a 99 FICHT 225.I have a bad diaphragm lift pump.my question is can I by pass it with a low pressure electric pump that you'd find at an auto parts store? I have been told that this would work fine by one source and that it won't work by another. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Don't do it, it is dangerous and the Coast Guard and marine industry practices not allow gasoline to be under pressure in boats except for engine mounted pumps and steel fuel lines.
