I messed up help please!

I unhitched my trailer and unplugged the lights. I pulled up and then checked and I guess my trailor wires caught on something on my truck and it stretched them out. The only wire that was damaged was the blue wire. I think think that it is the surge brake wire. My question is - can I just splice the wire and wire it back together? The wire tore out under the tonge of the trailer and it looks like it tore right where a wire clip or connector was. IF I wire it back how will I know if the brakes are working? Thanks in advance for replies. Keep in mind I am a terrible mechanic.

You should be able to splice it. Make sure you waterproof the connection with heat shrink or at least good electrical tape.

If you put your head by the tongue and have somebody put the truck in and out of reverse, you should be able to hear the solenoid engaging and releasing. You can also have them leave it in reverse and plug and unplug the connector while listening.

Good call Catfan, he also needs to make sure the actuator is fully extended, then unplug the connector, then try to back up, it should lock up the brakes...then plug in the connector, and you should be able to back up freely...
That blue wire connects the reverse solenoid into the system and it allows you back up freely with a disc brake system...
