Towing with a Toyota Tundra.
Would like to who pulls with a Toyota Tundra and what rear gear ratio are you pulling with. I am looking to get a new truck. My old is going to my son. I would like a GMC, but with the looks of GM not being around I am looking at all options. I guess my question should be. Is there any other ratio besides the 4.10 or 4.30. something along the lines of GM 3.42?
Thanks

i've got an 07 sr5 (new body style) with the 5.7 v8, and i can tell you right off the bat that it's a beast when it comes to towing. i have a 2000 nitro 911 and i can pass other vehicles like i'm not even towing a boat. that thing was built to tow bass boats, i had a 2001 ram with a 5.8 v8 and it puts that truck to shame. awesome gas mileage too, usually average 15-17 while towing vs. 10-11 with the old ram.

I have an 07 Tundra Crewmax with 5.7 4x4. The towing package comes with 4.30. My last truck was z71,350 engine and 3.42 gears. I wish I would have got the 3.73 in the z71. It was always lugging the engine. The way the Toyota is built with the 6 speed transmission it pulls way better and doesnt work as hard with the lower gear ratio. I dont know why you would want another gear because the way engine/trans are built it doesnt need higher gears. My neighbor has 07 Tundra w/4.7 enggine and has 4.10 gears.I get better bas mileage and can tow more.

I have a 08 Tundra double cab with a 5.7 and off road package. I traded in a F250. This puts that one too shame. Better MPG and with the 6 speed no more racing engine when shifting. Also the tundra has on the fly 4 wheel drive and you can put the trans in manual mode for down shifting while going down hills to save on break wear. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
