Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (TerryMSU)
1) yes it is a factory installed TILT motor not a trim/tilt and the center ram is just that for tilt.
2) No separate fuse just for the motor. Working off memory but they should be on the back of the motor.
3) Once again off memory on the right hand side of the mounting plate mid-way there is an oval slot that says manual release. Loosen it about 4 turns.
I Don't have a scanner but your local BRP dealer should be able to make a copy of the schematic from their shop manual.
Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (ChampioNman)
Thanks...
So, as far as the fuse, if the motor runs, etc. then the fuse is not likely the issue.
As far as the release, by right hand side, you mean as looking from the rear of the boat?
Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between tilt and tilt/trim?
The sticky above seems to show it being a tilt/trim.

T = Trim and Tilt - Electric Start
Thanks
Looks like it really is TILT. I found it in an exploded drawing and the label is indeed TILT, not Tilt/Trim. (ChampioNman obviously knew that.) So what is the difference betwen the two functions?

Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (TerryMSU)
Yes looking at the rear of the motor it will be midway up the right side bracket. It really isn't trim in the true sense of the word as it will not hold the motor up at a rate of speed it will go up under way though at slow speeds and while putting the boat on the trailer.
Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (ChampioNman)
Well I finally got a chance to work on it this evening, Here are a few pictures with a few comments.

I could not match this with any of the expolded views I found elsewhere (for example... ishopmarine shows this one. http://www.ishopmarine.com/ish...05-EJ )
I pulled the top screw (where I loaded the trim fluid last time) hoping that that would release the piston. No luck. Then I loosened the lower screw. That release the piston and I was able to tilt the outboard motor. Unfortunately I also lost the spring behind the lower screw. Argh! Besides which I still cannot get the trim motor to run. By the way, the screws are out in these pictures.
Does anyone recognize this assembly?
Thanks,
TerryMSU

Thanks, but that one still does not match what mine has.

Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (TerryMSU)
Actually it is, the image is reversed for illustration purposes.
Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (ChampioNman)
At first I was going to disagree, but now I see it. Screws 30 and 16 that show right under the o-ring seal kit are what I can see from the rear of the boat. Duh!

Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (TerryMSU)
Your engine is equipped with a "Tilt & Trim" unit designed to raise the engine to a tilted position @ low-speed (tilt) & change the angle @ high-speed (trim). I would suggest you follow the two wires coming out of the trim motor to the connector under the upper motor cover & disconnect. Provide 12V to the two wires to see if the T&T motor runs. If not the motor is faulty. If so the issue is with the relays or switch. The relays are located on the starboard side of the engine under a plastic cover.
Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (Sportwin)
Found the relays. They were OK, but they had a whole lot of tar like crud on the blades. I cleaned the crud off with WD-40 and Goof-off. (By the way, use WD-40 not Goof-off. Goof off is too potent a solvent.) No help there. Then I tried to follow the wires to the motor, but they were buried to deep under the power head to follow them. I finally gave up and took it to the shop on Friday mirning. No fishing this weekend, but until today the weather has been crappy anyway. So I got one of the big hunny-do items done. We cleaned the basement.
Thanks for all the input. I will keep everyone posted as to what they report back.

Trim motor. 2 hours labor and new motor (Arco) - $460 to $480.
Crud! No surprise there!

Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (TerryMSU)
Well I got it back and it is all fixed now. New trim motor, and some minor work on the check valve, plus one other thing. $497, ouch. The other thing... Remember the trim release screw that I could not find? Well, the reason I could not find it was because there was not a hole thru the side of the frame to access it. They added the hole thru the frame, so next time I can release the buzzard.
Thanks,
TerryMSU
Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (TerryMSU)
Glad you got it fixed. Sounds like someone did a conversion on your motor.
Re: Tilt/Trim quit working. (ChampioNman)
That was my thought.
