Broken emergency brake cable on Ranger trailer with surge brakes
Anybody know how to replace one of those cables. I thought it was unhooked from the tow vehicle when I unhitched the boat and drove away, but apparently not and it broke the cable. So, how hard is it to install a new cable? Anybody ever done this already?

I replace my cable this last weekend. I have a swing away tongue and I did mine without disconnecting the brake line. The flex line gave me enough slack to take it apart without disconnecting them. It took me about 2 hours. If I have to do it again I will disconnect the lines and take the unit of the trailer and do the job. You should have no problem if you do that. You will need someone to help you bleed the brakes after you put it back on the trailer.

R. Charlie is right, you will have to take the whole slide unit out of the tongue and rewire the brake cable and re-bleed the brakes. Not a hard job but time consuming.

yep he is right i had to do the same thing and its better if you take it off and feed it through and rap it around the trailer master cyclinder http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

I did the same thing as below, am I safe to tow it 25 miles to the ranger dealer to have fixed? I would try myself, but I have spent enough time withthe trailer wiring the last few days, and the boat needs to go to the dealer anyway.

If the actuator has been reset, you can drive has far as you like, the brakes will still work, you just wont have that last line of defense if the trailer tounge comes off, no worries..
