Looking for an expert opinion on the first picture. That looks like the hind end of a big cat. Our property is in North Louisiana, 16 miles south of Ruston, LA. Did not know they had big cats around. Anyone know what it could be......

There are Pumas in all area of La.....that actually looks like it could be a Lynx tail though....
Looks like a bobcat to me.

Looks like a bobcat to me.
bobcat tails are not long, they are "bobbed" or short and stubby. my guess is a coyote
That guess is the winner...................summer coyote that has most of hair gone. I see quite a few around here in summer/late summer. Hair is mostly gone and look quite bad......................Roger

looks like the legs are to bulky to be a coyote tho. It does look like some kind of cat, but like you said the tail is to long for it to be a bobcat.

Feet are two rounded/padded looking to be a Coyote....it's a Lynx/Bobcat no doubt..and they are not all the same, depends on region/areas/etc....I've seen three together out of my stand one day, two looked alike the third had different markings and build...

If it is a puma, are they aggressive? I'm not so worried about a bobcat but I do walk a ways to and from my stands in the dark with my 10 year son. Any precautions other than just being aware of what's going on around us? A lot of times he is so excited about deer we have seen or other wildlife we talk while walking out. I'll have to start being a little more careful with him.....

+1 on the bobcat, the tails are stubby but coyotes have a bushing tail. I would say it is a larger cat of some kind like a mountain lion or lynx.
Please go back out and take more pictures so we can settle this.
That doesn't look like any Puma or coyote tail I've ever seen. Lynx is a pretty good match but there aren't many spots/markings showing. Besides, aren't they rare that far south?
Why couldn't this be a domestic dog of some kind?

I went back up this weekend and left the camera there. I had 36 pics, 2 were coons and 34 were deer. The weekend this picture was taken I had a coyote 20 minutes earlier on the camera but it looks nothing like this animal. If I get another photo I will post - TC

google Bobcat, then hit images...not all Bobcats have short tails....Lynx are roughly the same size as a bobcat http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

I'd worry more about a Bobcat then a Puma (or in our parts a panther) put it this ways I've been hunting since I was 5yrs old, most of those years alone...I've seen 3 in all my life and I'm 37, so I wouldn't worry about it...If it were a matter that they didn't have enough food to eat, etc..I'd be concerned, but here food is way to plentiful and easy for them to get to worry themselves with humans (they are very nervouse creatures and do alot of their biggest movements in the dark...they know your around way before you would know they are...They have radar for ears and I'd give them an edge on smell even over a deer....I wouldn't worry, unless you happen to trip over one with cubs, but I doubt that's ever happened....I've had bobcats trail me all the way to my stand, and 30yrds out stop and look at me, then just slip off into the brush....enjoy your time with your boy, and don't let it get to you. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

The tail is to short for a big cat. The paws are not even close to a cats paw But really what I think gives it away is the hair Cats have thinner finner hair that hair looks more course
Must be a big chupakabra................or maybe an alien.
I would bet lots o money on a coyote.....
