2001 tr20 Merc225 trim and Jack plate help??

I think I have a 10" or 12 Hydro jack plate... Not sure how to tell except the nob says 12? Anyway the boat is new to me and I am trimming all the way down and jack plate all the way down.. when I take off and adjust as I go seems confusing and I wash the motor out to much... Feels like when I have the jack plate up pretty high it doesnt do it as much . Do you guys keep your jack plates at a certain height? Also My boat is a Triton tr20 2001. Does this make a difference when running? Seems like the boat likes the jack plate up higher?

You need to measure the difference between pad and center of prop shaft. If you have a gauge find out where 3 inches is and you can work from there. 2 3/4" to 2 1/2" to center is where most people run at WOT. The plate gives you the advantage of changing height of motor on the fly depending on water conditions. You don't need to go all the way down with the plate to take off. I usually don't adjust down except in rough water. Adjust your trim first then move the plate if you have too. Watch your water pressure when adjusting the plate up. After you run it alwhile you will get used to using it.

those numbers are for prop shaft BELOW pad...
