Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (Troy250)
the flywheel will only go on in one spot , its got a half moon key, replacing the timer base is pretty straight forward , however the engine timing must be checked after the installation of a new base.
Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (overdrivecb)
If you have replaced the stator, you can replace the timer base....
Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (THE WITCHDOCTOR)
Other than timer base and flywheel key, is there any other pertinent parts that need to be purchased for this endeavor?
I'm still hoping it IS the timer base. Any words of wisdom from experience.. Anything else I should look for?
Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (Troy250)
If you do remove the flywheel, be sure to check that the locations of each magnet inside are properly aligned and intact. These can break and move on you and create a situation that you've described.

Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (ChampioNman)
I was reading the manual and it mentioned this. Sure hoping they are not loose. Flywheel $1200.......The manual does mention putting the magnet(s) back in place with epoxy on some flywheels. Is this adviseable???
BTW......thanks for the advice gentlemen!!!
Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (Troy250)
Absolutely advisable !! Especially considering the cost of a new flywheel. You can actually get a repair kit from the dealer that works very well. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif
Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (gearcaseman)
that makes me feel a whole lot better. Thanks Eddie. Now if I can just get fire to all 6 cylinders........

Hang in there, you'll get it. Sometimes these things can be tedious to track down. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif
Re: Sporatic fire on #3 (gearcaseman)
Yep, these older motors can drive you NUTS. In the last year and half, it has been rebuilt, fuel pump went out, ignition switch went bad, rectifier went bad, and now this. But, I guess it is better than paying a boat NOTE on a new one!!!!
I told a friend the other day, for the first 14 years, I just pointed the boat in the direction I was headed and it went. Now, not so much......His reply, "They no longer come with a 15 year warranty".............. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif
