possible first boat...opinions please, thanks
I have found a 2000 518 xv comanche with tandem axle trailer.
It has a 2000 Yam. VX 200 EFI.
Minn Kota 48 lb. Trolling motor
3 bank charger
keel guard
2 garmin 240
Has 2 fishing seats and I bike seat.
He is asking 19,995 for the boat. I am not sure how Rangers and this style hold their value. Is this a fair price for the boat. I am going to be taking it out on Tuesday to drive it. It all looks to be in good condition.

Ya might try asking this over on the Ranger board They will surely give you some info on what to look out for. Good luck!

look through the rangers on the boats 4 sale pages of this site. This will give you a good idea of pricing of the boat. You'll have to scroll to the bottom of page 1 and go to the older rangers on page 2

For that price, I'd at least want a bigger trolling motor and better electronics. 48lb MinnKota?!?! That's not gonna cut it if the wind comes up.
I saw a couple 518s on the For Sale page.....they were asking 20K for boats with better equipment. So, in my opinion, this one is a little overpriced. Not bad though. Very nice looking boat! Remember - the 'asking' price is not always the 'selling' price.
Do more research on similar-year Rangers and see what kind of prices/options are out there.

I would also findout how many hrs on the motor and whether ther is any type of warranty. With that model year I would highly doubt there's any warranty on it but it's worth checking. Remember any cost savings gained in buying that model year boat can be quickly negated if you haveto spend several thousand on the power head, lower end, or a whole new motor. Just my .02

Sounds a lil high. That trolling motor WILL NOT cut it. If you buy, make him upgrade to AT LEAST a 70 and maybe even a lil bigger!!!!

Troll motor is WAY underpowered. Definitely need to find out hours on engine. I liked the Garmin 240's in their day, but technology is way past them now. So that's an easy $2K right there. What about the batteries? In perfect shape, I'd say $16K would be a decent buy with todays market. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

That's got to be a misprint on the motor. At the very least I'd bet that's not the motor he's been running on it.

My 97 Javelin came with a 48 and so did the 97 Ranger 462vs that I had, come to think of it so did the nitro I had before that. Standard equip.
16,5 would be reasonable on that rig imo.

I don't think you can get the number of hours from the VX motors.

Thanks for all the input. the TM was swapped for a minn kota 80lb. I am actually signing the final paperwork and picking it up tomorrow. Got the price down to a much better number as well
Thanks again!

My partner has a 518, pretty good boat. His is a slug since it only has a 150 and we are boath pretty big dudes. Boat fishes good though, plenty of room upfront for 2.
