Finally took some snapshots
I finally took some time to play around with my SI and take some snapshots....here's what I got. Some things i can distinguish, but some I can't...chime in if you know.
First pic is a grassline on a river ledge on Guntersville last week

this one just shows some more grass on Gville

this is a river ledge drop off. my boat was sitting on top of the ledge with the channel to the left. Are those fish sitting on the drop??? I thought they were. Didnt get bit on a deep crank though.

Any ideas on this one??

Re: Finally took some snapshots (rxtim83)
What's the scroll speed you are using? I would slow down the scroll speed to get higher detail.
Re: Finally took some snapshots (Doug Vahrenberg)
.7 and .8. Might want to pick up the speed a bit. say 3 to 5 mph.
Re: Finally took some snapshots (Doug Vahrenberg)
I have it set pretty high, Doug. This is coming from a 798, would i still be able to get more detail without the HD transducer? And do you think those are fish on that ledge, or too hard to tell?
Re: Finally took some snapshots (Doug Vahrenberg)
Is that why the images look grainy?
Re: Finally took some snapshots (Kanuck1958)
Slow scroll speed to 2 to 4 will drastically improve your details in the images. Speed doesn't matter as long as you have some movement. But slowing scroll speed will make it better. Graininess looks like he has SI Enhnance turned on med or high. I personally like the low setting.
Re: Finally took some snapshots (Doug Vahrenberg)
This is why this forum is my favorite....thanks, Doug. I'll try to tweak it and see what I can do.
Re: Finally took some snapshots (rxtim83)
When installed and set correctly you can capture great images. It's not super critical but it helps.
Re: Finally took some snapshots (Doug Vahrenberg)
I have been messing with my 798 since I got the di upgrade too. I am getting a lot of the same type images you are. Still learning about it all. I have made some rock piles I need to go see if I can find with it now that I have learned more. I really like the new colors on the latest update. I use the amber a lot too. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: Finally took some snapshots (rxtim83)
I really, really agree with the advice Doug provided. I have learned so very much for using the SI/DI on the water by simply walking out to the boat and running it in the simulation feature and trying these different settings. They have all been "spot on" for me and my little 798SI.
I also agree with "countryboycansurvive" as when I'm in shallow water I decrease my sensitivity a little, reduce the search area to about 75 feet and only look at one side, i.e. Left or Right. For me, and this just might be for me with the smaller unit, I feel I get a much better picutre and more detail on SI, especially when I use the "+" feature to blow an area and look at more detail. I have also reduced the scroll speed greatly to about 3 or 4 and noticed a HUGE improvement. I have also noticed that in different light conditions, the different color react differently, e.g. the blue works great in lower light conditions and the amber tones work best for me in bright light. I would imagine this is different for everyone as the light and brightness effects each of us differently. I do have glaucoma and having those different color palets helps me greatly. Just my thoguhts. I am certainly a novice with this equipment but enjoying the learning process greatly and the ways I can improve my fishing by using this technology.

I have a 798 and my picts. look about the same as these ----will do some adjusting on next trip.
Re: Finally took some snapshots (jdb21867)
I agee... better pics at 3-5 with screen speed and I rarely run my unit range over 150' now. When I've got the troller down fishing, I drop my range down to about 50-90'. Have fun!
