Rusty, CM, Seahorse

I had the 94 200hp Johnson Venom with low rpm. It's been about a month since I was on the board. My 93 Basscat has been at the mechanic for the lack of high rpm. The most I could get was 5250. I had tried different motor heights and was down to a powertech 23 4 blade prop.
Please tell me if this sounds right. The tech said the elec. checked out ok. He did discover that I had #65 jets in the carbs and the book or something said that motor called for #62's. Ther was something about a service bulletin on that motor concerning jets. My mod. # is J200STLERK. He put the 62's in and went to the lake. The motor performed great and he got 5800 rpm out of it. When he checked the plugs, he said the motor was running extremly lean and put the 65's back in. I asked if there was something in between and he said there was a 64, which he is going to order.
What does your info show for jets for that motor? If I run 64's and the plugs are tan instead of white, do you think I'll be alright? The motor also ran rough at 3500 to 4500 rpm, which he said he did not know about ahead of time and did not look for it. Do you think too rich of a jet could contribute to that? He also said that he didn't show 64's available but would try to locate some. Do you have them or do you have any other suggestions?
Previously the compression was 90 on all cyls. carb valves all open all the way, new stator, sync n lynk was set.
Please give me yall's input on the jet situation

To me something ain't quite right on that thing. About the only thing goes as far a jetting goes relates to #2 an you only go up 2 from a 67 to a 69 p/n 327558. But that shouldn't apply to your motor. Take off the Airbox and crank in the low speed jets to the bottom, don't sock them down and do only one at a time. Just so they touch the carb base, then come out 3 full turns on each jet and try it. You may need to tweak it 1/16th either way. But the plugs should look tan not white. That means your on the money as far as carbs go. Sounds like you have a sync n link problem, I still say you have a timer base problem. Did he check the magnets on the flywheel? Compression is good? magnets are tight, didn't quite understand the part about the 67 and 69. are those jet sizes? Are the plugs the only indication of a motor running lean or rich?
