Re: Gas Leak (leckbass)
It is the vapor seporator and I do not think you can buy the top piece seporate, look for someone parting out an motor.

i may have one, i'll check the part# later

Re: Gas Leak (Danrude)
Thanks Danrude, would this be the cause of the hard starting in the morning and the gas leak? What is the approx cost of the part new?

Re: Gas Leak (JeffA)
for 650, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix that broken tip?

Re: Gas Leak (leckbass)
Find a source for a stainless steel hose barb, clean up the seporator side and drill and thread for the barb. You would need to find a rubber or fiber washer. What do you have to loose!

Re: Gas Leak (Danrude)
Good idea, my back pocket thanks you! Its been a rough boating summer....
Can i remove the top of that canister without breaking the canister, or do i need to remove the entire piece?

Re: Gas Leak (leckbass)
There should be no liquid gasoline coming out of that fitting. It is a vent for the vapor separator tank, fumes only. If liquid gasoline comes out, then the cannister has to be replaced. It is not a repairable item according to the factory.
Although I can't tell you what to do except to replace the whole assembly, I have seen a small brass tube pressed into the hole and a large glop of expoxy holding everything in place.

Re: Gas Leak (SEAHORSE)
Thanks, can i remove the cap of the seperator, or do i need to remove the whole assembly?
-
Re: Gas Leak (leckbass)
You don't want to take it apart as there is the water cooling wall and the fuel area - any leakage between those cavities is catastrophic to the motor.
-
Re: Gas Leak (SEAHORSE)
as i dig deeper i think i am understanding it more...I noticed that it lookes like some gas is coming out of the "pee" hole on the motor, maybe that part between the water cooling wall and the fuel area is already broken...
-
Re: Gas Leak (leckbass)
can this be a reason that gas is coming out of the pee hole? This is the vapor seperator as well as the fuel pump and reservior? right? Do most 1999-2001 use this same pump?

Re: Gas Leak (leckbass)
Fuel in the water and water in the fuel. Yes, they are the same for those years!
