Remembering the drain plug

Attach the drain plug to the tighdown strap. I have a loop style plug so I just slip it over the hook before I tighten down the boat.

Great idea. I forgot mine once...just once. Now I normally just leave it in and pull it once a month, if needed.

I hook mine with a snap ring to my keys. I just unsnap it when at the ramp, as long as I don't forget my keys .....thats why you cary an extra set in the console Glove box

I quit worrying about my plug when I installed a float switch for my bilge pump. water gets pumped automatically with no worries. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif

Rodney, I leave my plug in most of the time also but that's not really the best for your boat or mine, Remember that the bilge pump wont drain all the water from the boat and think about how high the water in the bilge has to get to float the switch. When my auto shuts off, I can turn it on manual and still pump out a good bit more and the pull the plug and it drains still more! Anything sitting in water will eventually assorb water, Plastic fittings will also over time causing them to swell, Then allowed to dry they can crack, Doesn't take much, Even fiberglass will assorb water over time. If your using your boat every 2-3 day's, Leave the plug in but you still need to let the bilge dry out every once in a while, Also keeping the bilge dry will help keep mold down. No matter where the water is in the boat, This hot ass Florida sun and heat will pull the moisture throughout your boat! The best way to remember to put the plug in is to never take it out. I have done that with the three bass boats I have owned and never had a problem. The last boat I had for 19 years...I epoxied the plug in! I didn't epoxy my Triton plug...I just leave it in. Its too hard to get to.

The best advice I took myself is to never let your fishing partner help you 'set-up' your boat at the ramp.

When my boat comes out of the water the plug comes out every time. Then when at the launch check everything (twice). Have only left the plug out once in the last 25 years. Hope posting this don't jinx me.
