Re coat clear gel coat question
I am ready to spray clear gel on my 90 nitro. I have wet sanded the entire boat from 400 up to 1200 . I think the gel will work fine over 1200 but would like some assurance from some one with more experience as this had been my 1st go with fiberglass .is 1200 too fine? If so what grit should I be at?
Re: Re coat clear gel coat question (90nitrotw)
not a gel coat expert here but the guys on these other threads I've read usually roughup the gel with 320grit or so for a better bond.
Re: Re coat clear gel coat question (sandbarDan)
You not gonna see that through the gel??

Hi
I am not an expert by any means but I have a lot of on the project experance. That being said you will not see any of the scratches from your sanding thru the clear gel.I have had adhesion problems after sanding with 120 grit I would advise sanding with at least 120. you need a good tooth for mechanical adhesion as aplying over old gel you will get very little chemical bonding. The pros at ranger do spray after sanding with 320.The adhesion problems I had were over metalflake on spraying over solid colors 220 grit worked fine and you could not tell what I sanded with. Gelcoat is thick and covers up any sanding scratches.
