Started my Triton Carpet installation

Well, I finally got around to finally starting on my carpet job. I have a 2000 triton Tr21 and the carpet is a tan color. It was really dirty and it had no fluff at all. It was so bad that it was peeling off when I went down the road or when it was on plain. I actually seen a piece fly by me the other day when I was on Lake Anna.I bought the new carpet in Feb and it has been sitting in the basement and I decided yesterday to start it. I think it took me most of the day yesterday to just strip all the hardeware and glue off the front lids and deck. I got the carpet glued to the lids and started to glue the front deck and sides when a thunderstorm shut me down. Ready to see it!

It is a job redoing the carpet in a boat. I am currently recarpeting an 89 ChampioN.
Should be thru in couple of more days.

Well, I have some progress pics to post. I got the entire front deck done all the way back to the cockpit. I think it took more time to put all the hardeware back on the lids than anything. I found that using the 3M spray adhesive works best for the edges of the lids. I think it took me about an hour to do all the edges of the lids with that stuff.

I have to put the side trim on the carpet still but other than that the front is done. I can't do anymore right now cause the weather forecast call for thunderstorms all this week. I am glad I am on vacation next week to finish it up. Scraping all that glue off about killed me and the wife. Well, I ordered me a new 4 blade trolling motor prop and some other goodies as well. Thanks, guys it was a chore but I love a challenge. I still have the rear and the cockpit to do. I am going to take the lids off tomorrow night. Then start stripping them to get done. I am hoping by this weekend to have it all done. Weather permitting of course.

what do you strip the old glue off with?

I sprayed it down with some purple power full strength then me and the wife took a couple of stiff putty knives to scrap the old glue off. It really comes off easy. Most of the glue was really non-existant by the time I stripped it. I just got it 99% smooth and clean. After that I just started to glue it back together. I glued the lids on the top first and let it sit over night. Then I glued the sides together. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Just like JeffA's link he posted. I used 3M Heavy spray adhesive for the sides though. It works out great and the sides stick instantaneously versus the glue. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Well, I finally finished the boat tonight. I got it all back together and I am glad that is over with. It was my first one and last one for a long time. Here are the finsihed pics of it. Great job...As far as installing the new carpet, making sure the grain is going in the same direction, is probably the most important things to remember when making your cuts...Again, Great Job............Mike
