Re: Best Carpet Adhesive (MetsFan9)
I really like the 3M spray adhesives.(like the 77). As far as the removal of old adhesive,it is better to be safe than sorry! I would make sure all the old glue is completely removed before installing the new carpet. Methyl ethyl keytone, denatured alcohol would work well for this.
Re: Best Carpet Adhesive (BOMBER175)
Would anyone reccomend using Roberts 6700 indoor/outdoor carpet glue??? I plan on using carpet glue and applying with a trowel, and leaving a few inches at the edges of the carpet unglued and using contact cement (3M 77 Spray Adhesive) on both the floor and carpet to firmly hold down the edges in place. Again I have never done this so any input or advice would be helpful.

Metsfan,
That is exactly the way I done mine.(even used the outdoor glue on the lids) You can see the finished results here:

Looks awesome, what kind of adhesive did you use on the floor?
Re: Best Carpet Adhesive (MetsFan9)
I did 2 boats, one with carpet outdoor glue and the other with weld contact cement(gel type)...(all lids on both boats were done with contact cement)
I preferred the contact cement.... Its way quicker and once it down its down... you dont need to keep checking and rolling until it dries half a day to a day later....
I worked on small sections at a time... so it mostly eliminates the possibilty of error.....
removing 100% of the glue isnt a necessity but I like to get it nice and clean.. try a heat gun on stubborn areas....
this is the contact cement boat

What kind of contact cement? Can you get it at Wally World? Lowe's? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif
Re: Best Carpet Adhesive (bdunn3)
i used the brand "DAP - welds" from homedepot/lowes... Used the gel version
Re: Best Carpet Adhesive (JavRenegade20)
the 6700 is good to use on the decks, and top of the storage lids. I would recomend using the contact cement on the edges of the lids.....
Re: Best Carpet Adhesive (MetsFan9)
dont remember the actual brand. It was the outdoor carpet glue that the associate from Lowes recommended. Stuff worked great.
