How to epoxy or fiberglass a piece of wood into the bilge area
I need to mount a bracket into an area in my bilge. What I wanted to do is either fiberglass or epoxy a piece of wood and then mount the bracket to the piece of wood so I don't have to put a screw into the bottom of the boat. Would epoxying it be OK or do I really need to try to fiberglass it in (never done this). If I epoxy what would be the best epoxy to use?

If you are mounting it on the bottom of the bilge, you'll need to completely seal the wood, otherwise it will rot in no time from the bilge water.
You'll need to use resin or epoxy to completely seal the entire piece of wood.
Any good epoxy will work to mount it to the glass, just be sure the glass is clean and roughed up a little.

Actually I am going to mount it on the step area above the bottom of the boat. I have a Skeeter so the transome is actually on an extended part that is actually about 12" above the actual bilge area where the bilge pump is.

You'll still want to water proof the wood or it will eventually start to rot as it will be exposed to constant moisture from inside the bilge, you can get a pint/quart of resin and hardener from an auto parts store and give it a few coats to prevent it.

Use a piece of marine lumber, similar to a plastic cutting board, or just a piece of cutting board if it is thick enough.
