I'm about to attempt to re-carpet my '98 295 Pro Elite myself. What's the best glue/adhesive to use? I'm thinking on using a 20 oz carpet.

I am almost done with my 2000 stratos and i have used contact cement on the whole boat its worked great, kinda enjoyed the job and saved myself a lot of money
I've recarpeted my boat twice and both times I went to Lowes got some indoor/outdoor carpet glue. It is good about holding up when the carpet gets wet. Good luck.
I used menards indoor outdoor carpet glue. Worked great, just make sure you have the right trowel with the right size notches. Good luck, and have fun. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
I used DAP contact cement for mine. Just got it done today. 6 bottles all -- I was not frugal with the glue. It worked perfect...work in a well ventilated area though. Good luck and save yourself a bundle.
Back and front. My first carpet job..hardest part was laying the front piece by myself and getting the corners to fit. I also went with 20oz..carpet was a little thicker than i wanted in some areas. Charger boat.

I use a good quality indoor, outdoor carpet glue for the decks and the tops of the compartments. With this glue the carpet can be re-postioned if needed, easily. Then I use contact cement on all compartment edges for an instant tight bond....Hope this helps....Mike
Henerys 263 is the best by far,,it`s a solvevent based glue,,it sets up pretty fast. You can use it in any temp or weather. The roberts glue from Lowes is ok but slow to dry..
A lot of people post great results having used 3M spray adhesive. I suppose it it way easier and eliminates the possibility of overdoing the glue and having it leach up through. I have never done this but I have researched this a lot due to the fact I am doing the same thing in the next dew weeks. From what I have read, I will be going with the 3M unless I can be convinced otherwise in the next week or two.
Where can you buy the 3M stuff? part number? http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
You can buy it at home depot and/or Lowes. Most of the reading I have done indicates people use the # 80 or 90 adhesive. I think specifies that is is designed to bond to rubber which works out well for rubber back carpet. Last I knew it was like 10-12 bucks a can and most people have said two cans will do the avg boat.
If you have not ordered your carpet yet check this site out.

I didn't find any carpet that could beat the price as they ship for free. They will send you free samples to look at also.
Thanks for all the tips! Thanks for the site also...luckily I got postponed on the job and haven't ordered carpet yet...that site's going to save me about $100!!!
I ordered mine from there last Thursday and it should be here on Thursday this week. It ships fed-ex from GA. That's good time for free shipping.
I just got finished with new carpet on my boat. I used a combination of 3M and contact cement. My buddy does carpet for a living, so he was a big help. We used contact for the large areas and used the spray adhesive for the lips of the lids and it works great for those pesky corners.
