Re: Spider cracks in gelcoat (884Nitro)
Do a search on here for spider cracks and you will get plenty of information. Unless you have taken care of what is causing the glass to flex and the gel to crack, the cracks will just show up again.
You normally see these cracks in the higher stress areas of boats. Are you sure nothing impacted your boat in that area?
Re: Spider cracks in gelcoat (ProcraftMike)
Thanks for the feed back, I will run a search as you suggested. I did have a run in with a stump on Santee that ripped off part of my NITRO letters on the port side but I was idleing. The cracking is up on the top of the cap about a foot away from that impact area.
Re: Spider cracks in gelcoat (884Nitro)
I bet the low speed impact is what caused that. The area that cracked is probably the weakest area (the area that flexed the most).
I'm no expert on gel crack repairs, but I'm sure you would have to sand it down until you get below the cracks...at the same time making sure you don't get into the base color/flake layer. Then you would have to have someone re-shoot gelcoat over the top. Something like that I would be more inclined to take to a professional. Working with gel can be quite tricky.
