Repalcing the rope inside the rub rail...Has anybody done it?
Just wondering if anybody has replaced the rope inside there rub rail? I was thinking I would try and find some black rope to replace the old (1985 Ranger 370V) tan colored rope.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago, it was very easy. The old rope should just pull out . I used the handle end of a screw driver just a little bigger than the slot the rope goes into to open it up a bit as you push the new rope in, keep it tight as you go around the boat. If you find the right size in black that will look nice. thinking of doing that color in mine also.

Don't replace the rope with rope. I used a black tubing. I don't remember where or what material it is but it is so much better than rope. It has been in there for a lot of years now.....
Here is a picture you can see the black tubing in the rub rail.

Lowes sells the perfect black braided nylon rope (not that plastic polypropylene stuff) in their bulk rope, chain, wire department. It fit my Champion rubrail perfectly. IIRC, it was around 40 cents a foot. I bought about 45 feet. I merely pulled the old rope out, with the rope out, I went to making sure any screws that were loose holding the rub rail on were re-secured. Then I merely started at one transom corner and worked my way around the boat to the other corner.
