Saw an air sander on clearance at Wally world. Spins up to 10,000 rpms. Is it too much of a sander? Could I use it to buff out very light oxidation?

That many rpm's would probably burn a hole in the boat. 1000-3000 rpm's are all you need. It would be too hard to regulate the speed on an air sander. IMO
Way too fast, you'll have a real hard time trying to control the trigger. All it takes is one errant push at 5000+ rpm to scar the gelcoat.
