If the gel coat is not oxidized at all then a good caranuba wax or a sealant like Pro- Tec and then follow up after each use with a wipe down with BBS or similar product.
If it is lightly oxidized a good cleaner wax/polish first to clean the contaminants out of the gel coat pores followed by the wax/sealer.
Pro-Tec will seal the pores and provide UV protection, and the wipe downs will keep the scum lines from forming....
On the BBC Poles forum, That question was asked. The #1 spot is held by Meguires Flagship Premium Wax. If you do the Meguires once or twice a year, and wipe it down with BBS after every outing, I would think your rig would sparkle for a long time.
What is "BBS"? Thanks.

BTS (Bow to Stern), also a board sponsor, makes a great wax protectant. Check into it at http://www.btsprotectant.com. Very easy to use and better protection than traditional waxes. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
