I took the advice and replaced an old fiberglass lid with a new Cabelas Custom Hatch lid.
One question I had was how do other carpet this on the hinge side. The hinge is riveted in. I thought about just leaving a raw edge on each side of the hinge and I also though about removing the rivets and carpeting under the hinge and replacing.
What have other done?

Here is my lid. The hatch lid istelf does not look bad with carpet on the top of it but on the hinge side is where I had the question. You can see that the carpet will stick up right at the edge of the hinge, any suggestions on what to do?

I haven't used one of those before, but I might be using one when I build a deck extension for my boat.
Anyhow, I'm wondering if you can remove the hinge from the hatch frame. Then, run the carpet down over the inside edges of the frame and reattach the hinge. You have to make sure you have enough room to do that so the hatch will still close, but that looks like what they might've done in the photo.
I put one in my boat and didn't want to see the hinge so I made my own hinges that are invisible with it installed.
Even without the original piano hinge,the door is pretty snug after you wrap the carpeting around the frame and door.
Luckily,I have access to machine shop equipment so it wasn't that bad to make the hinges.
The hatch on the right is the Cabelas Custom Hatch with mod hinges.

The hinge is actually 2 pcs.,will try to get some solid models posted so you can understand what I did.

We retro fit those lids in older model boats. We also use contact cement for the adhesive. When you carpet the deck area, run the carpet up to the hinge, press it against the hinge with a flat tip screw driver. "X" cut the area over the lid so that you can tuck it down the other 3 sides of the frame. Now cut the carpet against the hinge edge. Use the recess between the hinge and frame as a guide. Make sure you use a sharp razor blade. I go through numerous blades when I do a carpet job. The best way to screw up a carpet job is to use dull blades. I usually make no more than 5 or 6 cuts with a blade.
Those lid/frames look like the ones made by R and R Design out of Terrell Texas.

Yes, that is correct. I bought it from Cabelas and has the R&R sticker on it.

If you wrap the carpet around the door and down into the frame to cover it,I doubt the door will close.Mine just barely closes the way I did it and my carpet is not very thick compared to the aftermarket carpet.
Maybe they have added more clearance to the door in the last couple years.
