Fiberglass definitions and stringer ???
I have ben all over the internet reading about fiberglass work and Im still a little confused. Can someone tell me what a fillet and tabby (I think thats right) are? Im gonna replace my stringers and if I understand right Im supposed to leave a 1/8" to 1/4" gap between the hull and stringer and "fillet" the sides leaving a gap the between the hull and wood the length of the stringer? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif

Your on the right forum for weatlhs of information. I'm not sure what tabby is unless their meaning tab the corners of the stringer to the hull and transom. I replaced my transom and stringers. I used a fillet which i used wood flour (sawdust) collidal silica. The fillet helps to transition the two surfaces so you do not have a 90 degree angle. Collidal silica gives you some strength but it helps to keep the fillet from running or saggiing when working on horizontial surfaces. You need at least a 1/4" thk fillet between the hull surface and the bottom of the new stringers. Make sure that before you set the new stringers that you brush on either polyester or epoxy to seal the bottomside of the new stringer and then set your stringer using a fillet.
The best approach before you begin to set the stringers is to make a wood block or template to keep either the outer stringers or inner ones in a nice horizontial angle. I also would use something like a shim or something spaced apart so you can make sure you have a 1/4" distance between the hull and stringers. If you do not have spacing between the hull and stringers it could develop hard spots on the hull and develop cracks. So it is good your researching it before you begin.
There are alot of good post on here for things ranging from dash plate installation to a total rebuild.

Thats what I needed to know.I was under the impression you leave a void between the hull and the wood.I didnt think that seemed right.I love this site.Thanks.Im sure Ill have a million other questions.

Also make sure your boat trailer is supporting the hull good and there are no bunk boards broken or the bunk metal support has collapsed cause it needs to be supported before removign the top cap. I would also if you have not taken the stringers out is to leave the two outer stringers and remove the middle ones first. This will allow you a nice way to make a template for the mddle ones and then once you set the middle ones you can then remove the outer stringers and make your templates from the middle ones. It also gives you an added check to make sure your lining them up to their original design/construction.

I replaced the bunk boards this summer and the supports look good.It only has 2 stringers about 2.5' apart.i have the hull gutted and some of the "squares" removed. I took like a million measurements as i dissassembled the hull. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif
