Replacing the transom in a party barge!
I have a buddy that needs to replace the transom on his partybarge. The transom is roughly 2'x2' and the thickness of two 3/4 sheets of plywood. My question is when we cut the wood to fir the opening what is the best thing to seal the wood with? We are going to use marine grade plywood and I know it needs to be sealed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The transom will be holding a 115 E-Tec.

I am rebuilding my transom and floor and am using marine grade plywood. I am coating the wood with a product called rot doctor. It is a Epoxy resin. I am not sure of your boat transom support or construction but i'm using epoxy to coat the wood and then laying fiberglass over it. Without seeing your transom you might just need to use only epoxy. Is the new transom enclosed in something? Reason i ask is because the sun's uvs are not good on epoxy. If it will be exposed to the sun you will need to use an inhibitor to protect if from the uvs.
Hope this helps, Garland

follow javlin instructions they are very good. when you put the two layers of plywood together, put a layer of wet 4oz mat between the layer ans screw together with SS screws.
