Recarpeting boat....Question on lids and rivets?
Hey guys,
I am about to start recarpeting my boat and have a question. My lids are all riveted on, which I will have to drill out I am sure. Now, I bought my stuff from bassboatcarpets.com, and they recommend replacing them with stainless bolts and lock nuts.....where in the world can I get that volume of lock nuts and bolts? I went to west marine and they didnt have much and what they did have was EXPENSIVE. I estimate needing problay 100 or more, where is the best place to get that stuff.
Thanks, Mike

Don't be afraid to check with your local hardware store, like Ace or something. They normally have some out of the ordinary items there.

If youhave a Tractor Supply nearby, some carry stainless steel hardware. They sell all nuts, bolts, and washers by the pound. You can generally get the pound for about the same price a 1/2 dozen will cost on one of the pre-packaged cards.

Why can't you rivet them back in place??
I re carpeted my boat and the riveting of the lids was no big deal:)

My local ACE hardware has a plentiful supply of SS hardware. Try them.

Just did mine, I used a flathead screwdriver and a hammer to knock the heads off the rivets, didn't take much to get um off. Also went back with rivets.

I also replaced mine with rivets. Once you get the hang (and correct size drill bit) of drilling them out, it's easy.
P.S. Except for that one rivet that just wants to spin around!
