1998 Venom 200 REALLY High Idle
Hi all,
I'm at the office and don't have access to my model/serial number but will update this when I get home. I'm looking for some guidance here mainly...
I've got a '98 Venom 200 that has been stored for about a year and a half with a full tank with fuel stabilizer. I'm hoping to get it on the water soon and have hit a snag. On muffs with my idle adjustment screw all the way in (as low of an idle as it can go) I'm still idling at ~2500 RPM. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif I've done a lot of searching and can't find a similar issue. Most high idle questions on here seem to be only around 1000 - 1500 RPM.
It cranks and starts with no issues, it just won't drop the idle. Before I get too deep, I wanted to get the experts thoughts...
Here is what I've already verified:
1) Butterflies are closed
2) Linkage is ok, throttle is at the stop
3) I'm getting the "click" for the choke when the key is pressed
I'm planning to do the following this weekend:
1) Sync/Link
2) Verify Quick Start operation (although the RPMs seem to high for this since it's supposed to cut off at 1100 RPM?
3) Try and determine if there are any air leaks
If none of those prove to be a problem, can you guys suggest anything else, or is it shop time? I assume the fuel is ok otherwise I would have starting issues? Could timing cause this high of revving?

If you didn't let it run very long, probably in high idle mode. Plus if you are just on the hose in the drive they will be a little high too.... not 2500, but not unusual to see 1300-1500----

On an old Faststrike I had the power pack was bad and caused mine to do that......

I got it taken care of... Ready for it..........?
It wound up being the tach reading wrong. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif I had moved the setting knob (6P, 3P,etc) a while back to clean the internal contacts and reset it to 6P and that didn't do anything. Today I pulled the whole thing out cleaned all the connections and gave it a couple of good taps, reinstalled and viola! It's sitting right at 1100RPM on the hose.
