Which Dobyn's would be more versitile
Which would be more versitle/suited for throwing a wider range of shallow to med.crankbaits, say from 1/4 to 5/8oz. The Dobyn's 684cb,704cb or 705cb? I have the 704cb glass and feel it is a little overpowered for 1/2oz and more. I also have the 705cb glass and find it to be a little stiff in the tip for 3/8oz or smaller. Was planning to start useing that for traps in sparse cover & open water this year.
I havn't really used the 704 cb glass except in the yard but feel it may have limited use if one of the other mentioned rods can take its place plus a little more.I fish as a rider alot so keeping the 704glass as a dedicated rod for 100,200 bandits and such is sometimes not an option.

705cb would give you the range you are looking for if you feel the glass is too much.

Thanks. So would the 685cb work equally as well? I spend some time on smaller river jet boats were things can get a little cramped for 7' rods. Are they the same power/action?

Yep...685 would be the shorter of the 705 if you are looking for a shorter stick. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

i have the 685 and it is great for 1.5- 2.5 sized square bills. ive used it for bandit 100s and 200s and it is good for them. the 4 power maybe better with those but if you go heavier like the 5/8 it will be too much lure
685 is very versatile too, ive used it for spooks (jr and super), traps (1/4 and 1/2), and in a pinch not bad with bigger jerkbaits. If the shorter length is what you want i would suggest this rod. the 684 gets overpowered imo with weights over 1/2

The 685CB actually has a little bit stiffer tip than the 705CB. I also feel it is a little bit faster in action. Check out the lure range on the rod vs the 705CB. 685CB is 1/4 - 1 1/4oz. 705CB is 1/4 - 1oz.
As I said on TT.com, you want the 705CB. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
